“Podcasts also have the potential
to motivate because they are often published weekly or monthly and so students
are provided with information as events unfold, …textbooks can often …
containing information and facts that soon become out-of date.” I really like
his quote because I started thinking about some of the textbooks that we will
be using in our classrooms, and why some teachers and maybe even us rely on the
textbook so much in our classroom. I was thinking about Social Studies
textbooks and how history is not going to change, but history is being made
every single day. Why not use podcasts to showcase the history that is being
made everyday in our own back yard?
I am not very tech savvy, and I
think that the best way for my students to benefit is to have my classroom
revolve around both the textbook and some podcasts to mix things up. I think
that using podcasts to help supplement my curriculum would keep my students
engaged and interested in the topics we are discovering.
I enjoyed the article because it
was reinforcing ideas about discussions that we have talked about in other
classes about English Language Learners in our classrooms.

Hey Kaitlyn! That same quote caught my attention as well. While I am a firm believer in the textbook, podcast do have a potential to provide enhancements in learning in today's classroom.. Your post made me wonder if we introduce the use of podcast in our classrooms, will this encourage students to be more inclined to use podcast outside of the classroom? I feel like podcast have recently become more popular. Not as many students just pick up a book to read for fun or to expand their knowledge, but what if using them in our classroom sparked an interest to a new way to engage students in different text outside of the classroom?

This quote stuck out to me also. I think podcasts would be beneficial since they are kept up to date. As a history teacher, it would still be great to have textbooks since they do not go out of date, but it is neat that you said you should bring in podcasts to show students that history is being made everyday!
