I really enjoyed watching the video
and listening to what Mrs. Maronpot and Dr. Royce had to say about teaching. My
favorite parts of the video are when Mrs. Maronpot says she is very passionate
about what she does so at times it is really hard when people want to come into
your classroom and critique your teaching. I really like this because I know
that is how I am going to feel when I am being watched and graded over how I am
teaching. I also know that it will get harder when I become a veteran teacher
and people come into my classroom and critique my teaching. Knowing that
someone who has been teaching for years had this problem does not make feel so
bad. Also something else that I liked was when the video mentioned there is
always room for improvement because there is and that is why we want people to
come in our classrooms and watch us teach and give us new ideas and
constructive feedback on how well or not well we done.
A comment Mrs. Maronpot made in the
video is that it is hard to accommodate and to have things make sense to
everyone whether it be because of difficulty level or diverse backgrounds. I
think that even before Dr. Royce came Mrs. Maronpot was doing a good job at
making sure every student got the most they could out of each lesson and that
is what I hope to also do. I think differentiation in my classroom will look
more like how Mrs. Maronpot’s class did when the students were doing the puzzle
activity, when each piece was already assigned to a certain person but the
student could not tell that it went to a certain person because of the
difficulty level of the question. To be able to obtain that type of
differentiation in my classroom I will have to work on my questioning and
varying what type of questions that I ask.

I really like how you addressed Ms. Maronpot’s positive attitude towards her career. I also have the same fear that I will struggle when people come to observe my classroom. I think the first few years of observations will be the hardest because we are new teachers, and we still are learning from experience. Since there is always room to grow, teachers may fear their observations will always have something for them to improve on, but this should not be a bad thing, but a positive thing. Ms. Maronpot was able to benefit from Dr. Royce’s suggestions to differentiate each question to the student’s needs in the classroom. The way Ms. Maronpot strategically differentiated her class so other students did not know they had a different difficulty level than their group members. I like how you mentioned that you need to self-monitor and watch what questions you are asking. Thank you so much for sharing!
